Imam W. D. Mohammed -Notes on Community-

Imam W. D. Mohammed
-Notes on Community-

  1. Let us build schools, cultural museums and cultural theaters. (“Afro American Genesis;” Page 68)
Let us infuse the Islamic (Islaamic) spirit into the African American for music, for dance, for arts and for culture. (“Afro American Genesis;” Page 68)

  1. Let us infuse into them the Islamic (Islaamic) potency, the Islamic (Islaamic) spiritual value, the Islamic (Islaamic) social value. (“Afro American Genesis;” Page 68)
  1. The focus is community life: (1) That means Masjid; (2) That means schools; (3) That means cultural centers; (4) That means we should be trying to provide cultural outlets for Muslims; (5) That means we should have Muslim theaters; (6) We should have Muslim art; (7) We need a different music, a new music and a new expression; (8) We must also have strong business.  We need to concentrate on business; (9) let’s push the wilderness out of ourselves, out of our homes, out of our neighborhoods.  Lets push the wilderness out of the Muslim community; (10) we have to have a Muslim Teachers College, we have to support the Muslim Teachers College.  We have to see growth and expansion for the Muslim Teachers College. (“Growth For A Model Community In America”)
  2. We should look for the day when we have mosques, schools, science research, industry, and art. I hope a day will come soon when we with all the Muslims of the United States will participate in a great Fair. I won't call it a trade fair, but it should be something of that nature. It should be something very akin to that, where once every five years we meet together and we bring our products to one central place. Invite not just Muslims; invite the world to come see the Muslim Fair. At that great Fair we will have our products from factories, from the science departments, from the farms and farmland, and from all of our labors and skills. (“February 18, 1989 Long Beach, California”)
“But the spirit is the power and the spirit is the direction to take that flesh to its destination, the destination is going to be a new city a New Jerusalem a new community of man on this earth and there are people who envy us that we have come upon this road that we are on the journey.”
(Imam W. Deen Mohammed, December 21, 1997)

They will say: "Praise be to Allah, Who has truly fulfilled His Promise to us, and has given us (this) land in heritage: We can dwell in the Garden as we will: how Excellent a reward for those who work (righteousness)!"
(Holy Qur’an 39:74 A. Yusuf Ali Translation)
